I am in the learning stages of beekeeping to see if this is something I can do. Considering all things 1st. I live in the city and want to know about safety first and how labor intensive it is.  I have bees that visit my fish pond  an a few years back had a swarm on my compost bin. I think there is Simone near me keeping bees as the number of bees collecting water from my pond is growing each year. I have read a lot but still not quite understand the part of the hive an how they work. I would like hands on training an hope to find someone close to me that I can take classes from. Any help along the way would be great. Thanks for having me Lori

Welcome to the forum, Lori.  If you watch you can make out the direction the bees come and go, the hive should be close to a straight line in that direction.  If there is a beek they may help mentor you.  There are lots of threads and videos here that can help you learn.  And you can find your local bee club.  Beek is very addictive.  Good luck to  you.

Welcome, Lori! Definitely find your local Bee Club. Winter/early spring is when basic beekeeping classes are offered around here. http://texasbeekeepers.org/
