another nice swarm today
« on: June 25, 2009, 04:40:23 pm »
kind of surprised.  it's late for us...or early  :-).  i was hoping that as things bloomed higher up i'd get some calls and sure enough.  the blackberries are going strong and i have gotten several calls.  most to far away.  going to have to set an end date soon.  winter is not so far away.  at least we seem to be into our 2nd swarm season early!!

I been picking raspberries!~ The black berries will be ready about the 4th of July!

Things sure are different 'season wise' in just a few hundred miles. I think if I remember correctly that spring moves north at the rate of ten miles a day. I am not sure about the rate that summer weather moves north.

Any swarms that I get after the end of June are usually combined with other stronger hives and fed during the hot months to get them ready for winter.

our summer has not started.  kind of a cool spring, but at least not so wet as last year.  everything is blooming, so time to put in stores and build up a bit.  i think i'll call it good pretty soon.  don't want to be feeding a bunch in fall.

couldn't pass on this one.  medium size swarm out of long standing feral tree hive.

sorry  :(

one swarm looks much like another.  how would you know that i didn't just post pics of other swarms?  :-)

what you really needed was a video of the swarm where i had to climb into the tree, still couldn't really reach, didn't tuck in my shirt, and ended up with bees under.  the audio would have been special also.  my marines would have been proud of me!!
