Ann, pineapple sage, I think I grew that one year and lost it. Can you mulch it to keep it over? Probably too late, but I wonder, I think it can be a hardy annual?????? Have a wonderful day, greatest of life. Cindi
No, unfortunately, it's what we call a half-hardy perennial, it won't make it in my climate. It's ok, I get them from the herb society plant sale, they're cheap enough, and they grow into a magnificent mound up to three feet high by almost four feet wide! I think I took a picture, I'll have to shuffle through the card a bit.
Cindi, I envy you your climate, there are so many wonderful salvias that just never flower for us because they usually bloom right when we get frosts. This year was an exception, but I noticed a large leaved salvia in the backyard, can't remember the name, that got hit - and it had large scapes just about to unfurl :'( Oh well, there's always next year.....
CBEE, Russian Sage is in the Laminaceae family like salvia, sage, lavender and mint, but it's different from the sages,
Perovskia atriplicifolia is the species name. I've seen bumblebees on it, but not many honeybees.
