Bermuda honey.
« on: August 30, 2024, 08:34:39 am »
Folks,
I?m vacationing in Bermuda for our fiftieth anniversary. My next door neighbor is a commercial beekeeper. He gave us a 3 ounce jar of honey. The flavor is like nothing I have ever tasted. Hard to describe but it is very good. Honey is very expensive here. That 3 ounce bottle sells for $20. His bulk price is $28 a pound, I?m talking about barrel prices. They only have 6 commercial beekeepers left on the island. Varroa wiped out all of the old beekeepers and their bees.
His name is Jonathan Hancock and you can visit his site at WWW.Bees.Bm.
Hopefully he will become a BeeMaster member and share his island experiences.

Congratulation and condolence to your wife or any wife of a bee keeper.  If I were to figure like goverment accountants calculate "WE" have been married 97 years.  Both of our spouses are passed away but we were both married 33 years, and we have been married 34 years so "we" have been married 97 years.

I thought we were doing good at 45 but you all have us beat.

Enjoying your vacation with you.  Might have to put Bermuda on the bucket list.  I confess it's not a place I had considered.

Congratulations Michael.
Kathy,
If you like shopping and going to the beach and crystal clear water this is the place. They drive on the left hand side of the road here. Doesn?t take long to get used to. Hardest part is turning onto the main road and getting into the right lane. There are very few road signs and where they are they are usually only visible from one direction. Most of the major intersections have where they go to only. It does help that there are only three main roads North, Middle and South Roads. It still can bee very confusing. Our first two days we were passing our turns and having to turn around.
Here is a map, it is only 20 miles long but the speed limit is 20 MPH and for good reason. Roads are in really bad shape, they are very windy, narrow with mostly rock walls on one side or steep drop off on the other.

They drive on the left with cars that have the steering on the left and the headlights adjusted to drive on the right (they are US cars and no one adjusts the lights), so you also get blinded in the dark.  It's bad enough driving on the left, but it gets worse when you come to a complex intersection.

It?s good to hear that there are others who drive on the correct side of the road. Sounds like a top trip Jim. It would be fantastic to learn a bit more about the area. Enjoy yourselves.

Here is a panoramic view of the dock and boat that the belongs to the owner of the house we are renting. It is on the other side of the road from the house. I was looking at a map from the mid 1600s and it shows that the island was cut in straight lines from north to south. That would explain why he owns this property with 4 houses on it and the water front property.
