Ace,
In the Jacksonxille area, there are very few toll roads. We have new ones going in but they are express toll roads. That means if you do not want to pay, you stay out of them and deal with the traffic. That is a win win situation. South Florida does the same.

I don't want to keep immigrants out.  I want to keep illegals out.  If we need workers then we can get them legally.  We already have millions of people in the hopper trying to come in legally.  Maybe we should take care of them first?
All for it.  Vote Trump out so the courts can continue what they were doing instead of being shut down.

FL ranks 28th out of 50 for cost of living.  NJ is 41 and NY 49.  My state has a higher cost of living than FL at a ranking of 37th.  So FL may not be the best, but it is certainly not anywhere near the worst.

Almost half of NY is in one city.
You can do a comparison between West Palm Beach and Utica or NYC and Utica.  Comparing one state against another is not the real story.

Although FL has a west coast and an east coast it is all considered "The East Coast".

Win, win?  Not the way I see it.  That forces congestion.  Which increases accidents and fatalities, driving your insurance cost nuts.  It also puts a burden on the local population going to work everyday.  What does a road do?  It increases commerce and wealth.  What do toll booths do?  Places a burden on the poor and health risks to the local people, increases the frequency of accidents, causes unnecessary congestion, slows down commerce.
I don't see any win, win in that.

You don't see a win-win because of all your fantasies blinding you. None of what you just posted is correct. The express lanes reduce the traffic in the free lanes by however many want to pay to go faster. All the other fantasies are debunked by that same fact.

In Texas, a lot of the toll roads that our taxes built as free roads, built with state highway funds and federal funds, even parts of the interstate system, have been sold off to a big Spanish company to ?administer? for many years (like 40 or 50 years).  Do you know whether your toll roads are still owned by Florida?  The way it used to work here was that once the tolls paid off the bonds sold to build the road, it became a FREE road.  Now our tolls go to a company with a name like Texas Tollway Authority, but that is misleading because it is owned by somebody in Spain.

This is a point I have tried to make in my state which is now considering toll roads.  They are not privatizing the roads, although the tolling system will no doubt set up and run by a private company.  they are simply finding ways to add a new tax.

They say they need it for road maintenance but that's what they said the gas tax and the gas tax raise was for.  It all went into the general slush fund.
They are so divorced from their own interests that even when their own security and that of their children is finally compromised, they do not seek to avert the danger themselves but cross their arms and wait for the nation as a whole to come to their aid. Yet as utterly as they sacrifice their own free will, they are no fonder of obedience than anyone else. They submit, it is true, to the whims of a clerk, but no sooner is force removed than they are glad to defy the law as a defeated enemy. Thus one finds them ever wavering between servitude and license.

NYS set up the Thruway Authority when the one toll road was built.  Similar story as yours about proceeds going to maintenance, which was poor.  No tax revenue ever goes specifically to what it is intended.  Then a bridge abutment washed out in early morning and killed a number of people.  The poop hit the fan and now maintenance is a top priority for the authority.  I think you will find in general that most proceeds for toll roads go to salaries and pensions and almost never support the community they burden.

Now a republican would say you should pay for the use of the roads you use.  A Democrat says you already are with your taxes.  The building of roads brings in wealth so you should invest in them.  Charging a toll just expands corruption and places a burden on the local community.

I got another one for you; the lottery.  The lottery was suppose to fund education.  The lottery brings in enough revenue to pay for a doctorate degree for everyone in the state but not nearly enough to pay for the corruption of its officials.

I don't have a problem with the idea of toll road if the roads are privately maintained and there is a commensurate reduction in tax.  that never happens.  In general, private companies do a better job in all things and are more accountable.  You can fire a private company.  You can't fire the state.
CA used to have some of the best roads in the nation.  Their gas tax and other taxes went into dedicated funds.  You could see exactly how much they took in and where it was spent. Gas tax to roads.  Property tax to schools.   Once they went to a general fund you could see neither without much effort and everyone could stick their hand in there for whatever they wanted.

The lottery is like the pot tax.  Another way for states to raise money.  The difference is that both activities are done by choice.  While they claim driving is a choice, for most of us, it is not.

The gas and cigarette taxes are good examples of how the government tries to manipulate behaviors and then cries foul when what they are doing does what they intended.
They are so divorced from their own interests that even when their own security and that of their children is finally compromised, they do not seek to avert the danger themselves but cross their arms and wait for the nation as a whole to come to their aid. Certainly not the case with the NYS Thruway Authority.  Anything public that is run by private is subsidized.  Almost instantly becomes corrupt and out of the reach of the voters.  Anything out of the reach of the voters can not be fired.  To think so is a fallacy.

And a government employee can be fired?  Malarky!  Try getting rid of even a janitor in a VA hospital who will not do his job.  It's possible only if the administrator is willing to devote a year or more to it.  Meanwhile, he/she can just hang out in a stairwell and let his/her assigned area get dangerously filthy.  Just an example, but the same is true all through the public employee sector.
Not that it is any easier in some private industries.

I don?t think it will bee Hillary. I have not seen her in the news for a long time. I think the health problems she was having during the election have caught up to her.

How about Michelle with Oprah as vice. Oprah's got the money and the following to give the G&T a run for his money. Surely she could hoover up the votes of female 'sick of Misogynistic Trump' voters? :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:

Getting worried?? HA HA. Sal is bragging. He knows the election is just a formality. Trump has already won re-election.

Jim, God is not going to help Trump.  He gave us a taste of the devil when we didn't pay attention.  Now it is going to take many Hail Mary's to atone for his sins.
