Old boat motor ( Evinrude sportwin)
« on: October 12, 2017, 10:26:37 pm »
Anybody know anything about old boat motors? I have a guy wanting to do some trading with me and he's offered up an old Evinrude 10 hp sportwin motor. I really don't have a use for it, but I looked at the pictures he sent and for some reason I fell in Love with that old time machine. It's in real good shape and he said it runs like a new one. I guess what I'm asking is what are these things worth? And does anyone have any specific info on these motors? Year made ect. I couldn't find much of anything online. I fish a lot but don't have use for the old motor. I might just keep it as a display piece. It's pretty cool looking and I could only imagine the stories the original owner of it could tell about using it.

Fish, search the web for availability of the ignition parts like modular plug wire/coils, and maybe carburetor parts like jets.  It may be running perfect now, but it will eventually need to be repaired.  If you're a good wrench monkey you may be able to make 'universal' parts work.

Don't do it. The wife can cook better than the motor. You will regret letting her go when you have to cook all your own meals.

Nope, Jim, never have let her go. Come March, it'll be 50 years she's been settin' a great table.
