How to install a replacement queen?
« on: June 07, 2012, 04:54:49 pm »
Hi all,
I have a replacement queen arriving tomorrow morning for my queenless hive. I have only installed a queen once before when she came with the package of bees. I have 2 deeps and a honey super on the hive right now.

1. What are your ideas on the best way to install her?
2. How long do I wait before releasing her from the cage?

Pop the cork off the candy end of the cage and slide the cage in.   Check in a few days to make sure they have released her.   Easy breezy.

In between the frames so its snug? Or secured with something?

Put it on the top of the frames between brood boxes with the screen side down facing between 2 frames.    Or slide it through the entrance on the bottom board with the screen side up.    Anywhere is good as long as they can get to the screen to feed the queen, and the cork is out of the candy end and it is not facing down so the hole can not get blocked.
