Ideas for skimming bubbles off of Honey Tank?
« on: July 06, 2010, 03:05:53 pm »
Who out there has got a great method for skimming the bubbles and stuff off the top of the honey tank?

I wait about 2 days then skim with a piece of clean paper. But there has to be a better way.
Here is my new book on Swarm Trapping at http://learningbeekeeping.com/beekeeping-articles/how-to-swarm-trap/ and follow me on youtube at OutOfaBlueSky

I use a large spoon.  I get over 75% by centralizing it into a high concentration area then actually spooning it out into a personal container.  At that point I don't think there's enough left for me to mess with and I leave it alone and start bottling.

The clean paper being used to skim bubbles off the top is interesting though.  Do you lay it on top with the idea that as you pull it off it takes the bubbles with it?

Someone really ought to tell them that the world of Ayn Rand?s novel was not meant to be aspirational.

That is the last jar I pour and my son gets to "play" with that jar.  It doesn't make it a week.

Hmmm, that's a cool idea.  Beats trying to get foam out of a spoon when you can wipe off a flat surface like that blade.

Why bother? It just sounds like more work :-xThe spigot is at the bottom, so you won't get the foam/bubbles until the last jar or two. Then just fill them until the foam overflows the jar and wipe it off.
