interesting UK hives
« on: December 07, 2009, 12:09:07 pm »
http://www.omlet.co.uk/products_services/products_services.php?view=Bees

these are not available here.  they look interesting. i didn't read the whole site but they appear to preserve the general principles that most of us follow, with added size and insulation.  i could use some insulation on my hives right now!!  hope my bees survive this cold snap........
Someone really ought to tell them that the world of Ayn Rand?s novel was not meant to be aspirational.

From their homepage:

As the old beekeepers saying goes, "there is nothing better than spreading thick delicious honey onto a slice of piping hot toast - except when it's been collected by your very own bees."

I've never heard this "old saying"...
"If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin." Samuel Adams.

It's a form of Top Bar Hive.  Saw the same in a Top Bar Hive forum.  Build your own for $40 at most.

Insulated?  hmmm....how did bees ever survive without humans?

they probably wouldn't  have chosen the top of my hill as a place to put their hive.   :-D

I'm wiht kathyp - it looks like a beer cooler. Which has started me thinking - maybe I could use an old cooler for a top bar hive.

I have seen these before, they appear neat and efficient.
I personally like the style of the old fashioned wood but that plastic looks like it would be easy to keep clean.
