I know this is a big day for some folks. It goes by nearly unnoticed around here. What is it about anyway? Ain't it some overseas thing?

If there is alot of Irish living in an area then St.Patrick's Day is usually celebrated in a bigger way than another, if that makes sense.
I live near South Boston and they have the big parade and its a huge deal but there is alot of Irish living there and always has been but I don't think other areas in our state celebrate as much.
My hairdresser is from Ireland and she said that over there St.Patrick's day is a very serious and solemn occasion and not celebrated with green beer and parades.
She finds it bizarre the way its celebrated over here.
Saint Patrick was actually from Britain and he was kidnapped by irish raiders(his family was wealthy) and brought to Ireland he escaped after 6 years, eventually became a priest and returned to Ireland to minister to christians living there and to convert others to christianity, so ironically is not even irish himself but he is celebrated on the day he is thought to have died March 17.
There is your little history lesson for today.(you really can't live where I do and be irish and not learn this stuff at some point in your life) ;)
