I got a call from a local Elementary school this afternoon. Nice large swarm right outside their office. It was in a tree about 15 feet above the ground. I took a heavy cord and tied my car keys to it use as a weight so I could toss it over the branch. (Great idea, wrong item to use as a weight.) I successfully got it over the branch, shook the bees on to a large sheet I had placed underneath with an empty hive off to one side. After shaking the bees several times, I noticed that my car keys were showing no inclination of coming down from the tree. Fortunately the janitor was just leaving and he brought out a step ladder. Whew, I hate being stupid. Anyway, the girls are all safely in their new hive in my back yard. Now I just have to convince them to stay. All this with just one sting. A single bee crawled up the inside of my pant led and nailed my knee. I was going to leave it alone, but I started breaking out in hives so I just popped a couple of Benadryl. I'll be getting sleepy real soon now. . .
