Wow, that's crazy!  I wonder if its odd appearance is at least in part due to it being decompressed so fast from being hauled up from that deep in the ocean.  Sort of like the blobfish, which looks really quite normal when it's in its natural depth.  I found a picture of a live one on iNaturalist, provided the fish is being identified correctly.  Chimaera montrosa, the rabbit fish or the rat fish, is what the news story said it was.

I would agree about decompression. 
totally anecdotal; I usually have to loosen my belt a notch when I when I go up a few thousand feet to play in the mountains.
