Title: best queen bee
Post by: Big Bear on April 26, 2014, 11:09:45 am
I live in the south western part of Ohio. My question, and I know this is a tricky one, what is the best line of bees for my area. Carniolan, Italian, cordovan, Minnesota hyg.,Russian. I have a diversity of weather conditions, I am a natural beekeeper so I don't use chemicals and I have feral bees as well but that doesn't mean they are good honey producers. So what do all you have to say, I also want to start raising queens as well but I want to start with good stock. I had 25 hives till this past winter which was colder than normal now I have 8. Thanks for the help.

Raise your queens from the 8 survivors.  As My Ohio Hero Mel Disselkoen replied when asked what the best bees were, he replied  "live ones"!
