Title: bees and Roofs
Post by: jelder on November 20, 2012, 03:41:59 am
got a call last night from a friend who said a swarm had taken up residency in his roof.  went round and found the entrance point.  then went into the roof space to see if i could get it from there, no such luck.  then proceeded to climb onto the tile roof and using those yet untapped skills that all bee keepers have, removed the tiles above the colony.  at some stage i must have got the queen because after about an hour the bees started to go into my bee box of their own accord.  eventually got the majority in (swarm of about 2000-3000 bees) and then put back the tiles, good as new! who would have thought.  if i give up my current job its good to know that another career opportunity has possibly opened up.

Now you got me, birdswood.  How many fingers and toes does a bee have?  :needhelp:

Mek, are you saying Jelder holds forked hive tools over roofs?

If you wanted to do it quicker you could count only the left legs and divide by 3. :-D

I do not have a very good history of how to count insects.  We had to guess the number of dung beetles in a jar at the show a couple of years ago and unfortunately I must have been inaccurate because I didn't win the jar.

These Taswegians sure can count good.  There is always someone in Tassie saying how many tassie tigers there are in the scrub but everyone else thinks there are none left   :lau:

I suppose Jelder can find bees but did someone get him a ladder to get down from that roof?!
