Curious about what you guys that do trap outs use for those way up there jobs. I'm looking to save hauling to much weight up and down ladders or having to pour footings for the scaffolding to hold up the trap hive.
Are the beemax polystyrene boxes lighter by enough to consider?
Eight frame equipment?
Nukes?
10 frame mediums?

The size of your equipment really depends on the size of the colony. If you want to keep the weight down use nucs and try for 3-4 new hives from it.
I normally use deeps and find a way to lower the full box down with a rope.

Thanks, the last trap out I did was over twenty five years ago and was a tree with a knee high entrance. That was one of two I did back then.
I'm gearing up to do live removals and trap outs and the nature of my work now I take on all comers.

I hear what you're saying...I actually took a yellow jacket removal job today.

So how many frames did you get from the yellow jacket hive removal today? :-D

I use 10 frame boxes with staples holding the bottom board on. I check them often and remove them when 7 frames are covered with bees. Normally there will be 4 or less full combs of honey and brood.
