is it better to have a landing borad on the hive or not .did i see robos hive picture i think it did not have a landing does it matter?
-
They aren't required, feral hives do just fine with them. They do help though when the bees return fully loaded.

For what it's worth, I don't use em, just the lip on the bottom board. I haven't seen em on any commercial pallets. Top entrances don't have em. May be useful if the hives are setting right on the ground to keep grass/weeds back from the entrance.

Thats one thing I didnt get when i started my bees, cuzza the expense. I really dont know what the advantage is to having them...well,...I bet the rain will go away from the entrance better if you use opne.

Can't use them commercially as they take up space. If you've got some hives you keep for a hobby, they'll save a percentage of bees due to the dozen factors that cause bees to tire out before they can zoom in to an entrance without one.
Plus, you get to see more bee activity like grooming, feeding etc..
They probably won't make more than a couple pounds difference in your harvest, but they're fun if you have the space.

IMO it doesn't matter at all.

I have some with em, some without.

Keeping them out of heaflaw's fermented honey lessens the need also :-D.
