Compilation of my jigs to build bee hive boxes
« on: March 01, 2017, 10:52:27 am »
I demonstrate the building of bee hive boxes using a box joint jig, a frame rest jig, a hive handle jig, a pilot hole jig, and 2 hive box assembly jigs.

All fantastic - send them to me.

What (wood) did you use to build the box joint jig? That seems to be my biggest issue - having a square, straight starting point for my jigs. If the jigs aren't right, nothing else is.

The entire jig is made from Baltic birch plywood which has about 18 plys per inch.  It is solid core throughout the sheet and I buy the 60x60" sheets.  I have a cabinet shop cut the components of the jig and I do the milling and assembly.

My only suggestion is to consider taking your phone number out of the video unless it's a business number. Otherwise beautiful jigs!  I don't make enough hive bodies to require all that.
Keeping bees since 2011.

Also please excuse the typos.  My iPad autocorrect can be brutal.

Fantastic.
If I was going to have more hives, I would definitely be getting a set of your jigs.

As Will Smith would say... well you know.    Getting jiggy with it!

Seriously though, that's a nice setup.  I am working on setting up a small workshop and will look you up when I'm ready to start building some of my own boxes.

The video is not deleted, but we have run into some challenges. We have now started to use https (secure communication) to the server. There is a challenge with YouTube videos and a plugin to handle those videos that does not work well with https. We will look into this. The links have not been removed, so when we have dealt with this one way or another, the videos show appear again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

:embarassed: I now feel like a total consumer for buying a commercially built jig to do my (so to be) horizontal hives. You have inspired me to create templates for cutting everything but the corners... need to get some use out of my expensive jig on the finger joins.
Hive Count:
2017 - 1 (Nuc received Early Nov, new hive started)
 2018 - 6 - 3 from 1 split and 3 from swarm trapping
 2019 - 8 (so far)

I see it's your first post. WELCOME....

I have both jigs made by Carl.
I have built over 2,000 boxes with the hive handle jig.
It is fast and what I really like about it is the fact I still have all my fingers.
I also use the box joint jig.
In less than 10 minutes I can cut enough box joints to build 4 boxes.
And again I sill have all my fingers.
It is the fastest box joint jig I have seen.
I highly recommend these jigs to anyone serious about building their own equipment.
