Plant identification help
« on: May 26, 2014, 12:00:13 pm »
I was thinking some sort of holly.  Maybe ilex glabra (inkberry, but it doesn't have the 3 teeth near the end of leaf) or ilex  coriacea (gallberry, but it doesn't have the reddish tint to the new wood).  So any other suggestions of what I might look for to find similar pictures and a reference?  It is growing on the side of a road here, right next to lowland that still has standing water (all year round apparently) in southwest florida.  I missed the flower stages and don't know how long ago it was, but you can see the current state of this years berries.  Last years berries are still on some of the trees and are black in color.

Thanks
Bobby
