I'm sure some cold intolerant insects have to migrate to end up in Nebraska.  Though I've often found catatonic flies under shingles that warm up in the sun and start flying, I'm sure some of them can't find anywhere to survive the -20 F nights and must migrate to get here.

Thanks Max. I wasn?t aware that that many insects migrate. I also thought that only Monarch butterflies did it.

That sucks.  I hope you will be surprised to find that most are salvageable.  They are tough little things.

One of the reasons I like top entrances is because moist air rises.  You need to let the moisture out.  Also why I don't like too much ventilation.  Because the bees can't control the environment if there is too much ventilation.

All good points Mr Bush. I agree that too much ventilation can also be a problem for the reason you stated. The important balance is the key..

Yes Bill, a hive filled with wet nectar; With the humidity in the high 90s outside, can you imaging how humid the inside of the box is, poor bees working, fanning doing their best to dry the nectar enough to cap? It might be like trying to dry wet clothing and shoes in a sauna! lol.. I posted of Tims method of success for those who may have the problem that he faced as a beekeeper in such dire circumstances, and overcame with success. Perhaps Tims experience shared here, will help someone.
