Jogging companion, what is next

Take a look at this video. Robots have come a long way.
Once they get artificial intelligence, we're doomed, they will take over.

Democracy is 2 wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote.

Somebody has to be controlling it -- direction, etc.

It would be a great pack "mule" for military use or for back country.  And you wouldn't have to feed and water it.

I believe it directs itself. The sequence of how it climbs the stairs and it's limb placement on the steps is interesting. Maybe it has downward facing cameras on that head array?

..wonder if it can detect snares, lol.

It obviously has gyroscope(s), since it can't be toppled.  It recovered nicely when an attempt to tip it over was made by kicking it.  But I say it must be controlled to some extent because it went up the hill toward traffic on a street (how would you like to be driving along and see this thing coming out of the woods?), then turned and went back down the hill.  The speed at which it moved was somehow regulated, as well as the direction.

Google "robotic pack mule" and you'll find that is, indeed tested by the military and Google owns the company developing it.  It can carry 400 pounds and travel 20 miles in a day without "refueling".  My quick look didn't determine what powers it.

Looks like my dogs are safe for at least another generation.

When it can point a pheasant and retrieve a duck out of the marsh I'll be worried for them.

I'll bet that service dogs and seeing eye dogs dogs would be a great job for these things.

They had things just like that in Papua New Guinea during World War 2.

It ran on oats and if you ran out of food - you could eat it.
