Suggestions for free books? I would like to post what I read but it is all over the board. I have read the Ann Aguirre Sifi, Chris Moore (really funny dry), books on tape for the commute (Private), now the Borne book (I think I skipped to 3 since it was available).
I almost sent it back the day after Christmas. I could not download library books and Amazon called me up and walked me through a process of using a different software (overdrive).

There are a ton of free books available from the kindle store.
I just checked my app, there was a tab for free books now gone. But just search the word free. I've read several classics that way.

I have used all of these without problem. some post to you and the last two will email you with free selections a couple of times a week. I have more books than I'll ever be able to read! some are not so great, but i have found some neat new authors to read this way.

Just to add another option - I recommend "CALIBRE" pronounced Cal eh ber - as in a bullet.
It is a wonderful program where you find the RSS feeds at newspapers, Magazines, Free books, etc and once entered into Calibre, you get daily newspaper updates, and anything else you chose. The best part is converts file extensions, you know there's really dozens - here are most http://www.file-extensions.org/filetype/extension/name/e-book-files (http://www.file-extensions.org/filetype/extension/name/e-book-files) - but don't worry, you can easily set a default type and Calibre will auto-convert them for you.

yeah, our library requires overdrive for ebooks. for audio though, don't use overdrive and they will not expire. you can download them as mp3 and keep them until you get around to listening to them.
will your Kindle let you put the Nook app on. or other readers? if it will, you can download Nook stuff and find other free books that are not Amazon.

KathyP, no luck on the other apps. The library also has 3M that you can download and they will not expire but they will not work with the Kindle. I tried to use the Calibre to change the 3M files but they are Digital protected so it would not change formats. I downloaded some woodworking books on an open source and used Calibre to convert it. I just looked at it and the pictures did not convert. A lot of good a woodworking joinery book is without pictures!
I came so close to sending it back but my Girl got one as well and I did not want to send back her Christmas present. Although she reads so much that just about everybody gave her Barnes and Nobles gift cards. If she is paying for a book she wants to have it in her hand.
