Ultralite
« on: May 09, 2018, 07:44:44 am »
Does anyone her have/fly an Ultralite plane?
I am working on building a 600? runway here on the farm so that hopefully one day I can get one.
I flew in a TC Trike in the mountains of NC. It was great. I really loved it. I need one with a short take off.
Any info would be greatly appreciate.
Jim

We have a kit built helicopter that is 95% finished that I know you can get for a steal.   You could rent a truck and take it down with my equipment trailer.
When I was into RC we had a guy that use to land on our field.  It didn't take much runway to get airborne.  You still need to cut down a lot of trees.

Why would I need to cut down trees? Did you see my runway during Beefest?
It is about 110? side by about 600? long.

Didn't realize how long a swatch it was.  Was that the purpose of the clear path?  The direction is right for the wind?

Yes. It is not ready yet. We just installed a fence on the left side of it. We will be removing the fence that runs down the middle and install another fence on the right side.

I have 2 Team Aircraft, Zmax(they are like a 3/4 scale Piper Cub). About 100ft roll for takeoff, stall speed 29mph. Flew perfect, didn't need any trim tabs. 600ft is a nice length for ultralight runway with no obstacles. Be careful with winds aloft when getting above treetops along runway. If interested contact me. There is a nice EAA airshow in Lakeland, Fl. every time I went there were quite a few ultralight planes.

The basic cost varies greatly.
You should get lessons before you try to fly. Taking a ground school course would be ideal.

Wow! What a show! Jim, I was thinking that I would stop by if I'm ever in your area and let you take me up for a flight. I just changed my mind !! I don't know which would be the worse experience, flying with that guy, or the bear attack video! Either way I think I would need to change my garments !! Ah haa haa ha !

Phillip,
You definitely must stop by if you are in the area. Just let me know ahead of time.
By the way, I do not have an ultra lite yet.

I was taught there are two useless things in flying -- the runway behind you and the air above you.  But low-level flying is a thrill.  No question about it.  Hope you get in the air soon and have fun.

Funny how you bumped this thread, last night I stumbled across a video from Flight Junkies. I ended up calling the owner, Kurt, and talking to him. He sells Powered Paraglider Aircraft. He has been doing this for 3 decades and only sells the best equipment. He said the one for my weight would cost $12,000 every thing included. His engines, Fresh Breese, starts the first time, right out of the box. And started on the first pull on every unit he used.
My only concern now is I do not think my runway is wide enough for Powered Paragliding.
Another funny thing. Last night on the news, a guy in one of these units landed 60 feet up in a tree and had to be rescued. He did not get hurt.
