I have never had good results using the search function.
After reading Hjon's reply saying how much he liked it, I knew something must bee wrong.
I did a search for beekeeper and it found nothing.
I did a search for bee. One thread showed up. I use bee for be in almost every thread so I knew something was wrong.
I went into advanced search and clicked on "show results as messages" and did the beekeeper search and it came back with a ton of threads.
I have gone back into advanced search a couple of times and "show results as messages" is not checked and does not remain checked.
I will have to manually set it for every search.
I did a search on "show results as messages" to see if this has been talked about before. First it came back with 2 threads with every as, messages and results in those 2 messages highlighted, none of which were together. Then I did the same thing in advanced with "show results as messages" checked. This time it comes back with what looks like a big part of the help section and no threads. Same thing with none of the words together.
This search function does not work for me.

Jim, I just pulled up 193 pages of lists of messages with the word "beekeeper" in them.
What I found out a long time ago is that the search function seems to be location specific. In other words, if I'm in a specific sub-forum that is where it searches. To search the entire forum I usually click on "HOME" and when the full list of sub-forums is shown I enter my search criteria.
...at least I *think* that's how I do it. :-D
Best wishes,
Ed

Thanks Ed, I'll try that.

This is what I do too ( search from homepage ). Works very well for me. I have never tried it any other way but I'm curious now....to the search bar!

She's probably got a pithy analogy ready for these occasions.

This is great information! I use the search feature a lot and I have had intermittent trouble, also - probably because I search from wherever I am instead of going back to home. So helpful! Thank you!

Try searching from google.com with this on the end:
