This does not look good
« on: May 13, 2018, 01:09:45 am »
We are supposed to have 8 days of rain starting Monday and it shows rain all the way to the last day of the forecast. I do not remember the last time it rained for a continuous week.
Unless we get a few breaks where the washed out nectar can return, they bees will be eating all the honey they have collected.

You know, I live in rainland, Pacific Northwest.  Here the bees get out between the showers.  Many flowers are pointed down, so nectar isn't washed and pollen still avail.  Must be way different there, happens all the time here.

That is another reason why I wait until winter dearth before taking honey.  It is so much easier to judge how much they need when the nectar has stopped.

I was wondering where spring went.  Two weeks ago we had frost overnight and this weekend we are near record highs.  Looks like I need to go to Florida to cool off.

Ya it went from winter to summer overnight. It?s not real dry but not real wet here. I?d like for it to continue just as it is.
Keeping bees since 2011.

Also please excuse the typos.  My iPad autocorrect can be brutal.

In my neck of the woods it's dry and the rain forecast is 50/50,

maybe it will.., and maybe it won't...

Ugh, up here too. It just started 15 mins ago.

The more experienced local beeks say that bees like to build swarm cells on rainy weeks when they have nothing else to do. True?

Pulled five gallons off my hives last week before the weather changed and left them plenty for a rainy week. Been seeing the bees out flying between storms and hope they are doing ok. Not much that can be done right now, just hoping for a good saw palmetto bloom when it clears up.
