Hi All
Just wondering if anyone knows the best fabric/material to use for small hive beetle traps. I want to try the traps where the beetles legs get tangles in the fabric and they cannot get out, just not sure of what fabric works best and where to get it.

People use swiffer pads. The dusting kind. Like this:

... been there done this got the Tshirt. I wont be doing it again.
Any of the felts works - if you have an old Akubra pads could be made from
cuts of that material. Likewise for old pool table tops or those card game skins. I use - now
only for vapour seals between boxes - that fabric used for drainage under roads, only because
I have miles of it.
What I found was too many bees for my liking also got enrangled in the strips - I only ever
mounted them on the bottom board at around frames #2 and #7.

Seen enough of the application and read more than enough testimonials
to give the strips a shot. I would lean to agreeing beetle does not fly inside a hive structure.

Ya Noe how virgins run helter skelter...?... that worried me.
Those young'uns have enough on their plate over getting
their nubile legs wrapped in groping hairy undergrowth, like ;-)

there is one product that i use . i run a thousand hives and you name it I've tried . a Australian company called edco make a product called merri wipes they are different in the material compared to chuks and other wipes . it has cotton in the weave which catch the beetles but catches very few bees. trouble is people go to bunnings and other places it looks the same but once you feel the edco you can tell the difference. edco has a site on the internet and shows where you can purchase them. place above the excluder in centre of the hive . this is all i use now and is far better than any other product and is chemical free .

There is a deliberate space keystroke between "you" and "tube" Brian.
I do that to prevent the link going live in a browser. Safe, and uses
screen real estate more efficiently. Remove the space in a copy and
paste to your browser.

Mineral oil works better because it doesn't get rancid or evaporate. You can strain it and use it over and over.

Yep..luckily my experience with SHB is very narrow, I'd want to keep
it at that so am regularly in broodchambers poking around.
My outyards don't have them and it has been a while since spotting any
at the homeyard.
The hairy cloth strip traps beetles, it also traps bees... and more bees than I
consider safe practice. The screens and oil idea is well and good for
beetles where they fall in, and yes greater numbers mean more beetles in
oil traps but you do not want them moving above tbe entrance in tbe first
place.. not one. There is why the metal barriers coated with that spray
appeal to me.
For low numbers - and some amusement - hitting individuals with liquid nitrogen
is an excellent solution, one many would baulk at for time and cost.
