SHB – experiment/observation
Been seeing lots ( 15 to 50) of small hive beetles in my hives.
Been squishing as many as I could. But some get away and I
am sure that some are hiding in the combs.
Tried 2 things which seemed to help.
1. Put 2 pieces of corrugated cardboard in my worse hive. One on top of
The inner cover and the other on top of the frames just under the
Inner cover. The one on top of the inner cover had nothing in it.
However the one on top of the frames (below the inner cover) was
loaded with SHB. I wasn’t prepared or I would have bought a bucket
of water of something to drown them. Will try this on all 4 of my hives.
The cardboard I tore off one side of the facing so that the corrigation
showed.
2. Put a small hive beetle trap from Dadant on another hive. It seems to
be catching some.
The 2 hives I have these 2 controls on seems to have the fewest shb.

Interesting, and good idea with the corregated cardboard. Might want to try a piece on the bottom board. If that works, you could remove and replace it without having to open up the hive. Just a thought.
Keep us posted.

Fred put dish soap in that pail of water. Works better than just trying to drown them. Matter of fact works on just about every pest you want to get rid of.

that is a good idea about the cardboard, you could try a small piece on the bottom board with a little piece of fishing string tied to it and just pull it out the entrance of the hive with out taking the hive apart , just a thought.
