Wall Banjo
« on: May 16, 2010, 12:15:01 am »
Hello,

If you have ever wondered about any other use for bee frame wire, maybe a wall banjo is a solution.  The 3 smallest strings are stainless steel bee frame wire, the next are 5 wires wound together, and the largest string is boating cable.  I got the idea after seeing the musical fence at Winton.  I was going to try fencing wire, but it stretches too much.  I had a bit of help with welding and other input from the blokes here.  The length is exactly my height because I lay on the floor to measure it.  The pot is a wheelchair wheel, and the drumhead is colorbond steel.  Most of the material came from the local tip.

I hope this answers your question about what I've been doing, Phil  :)

So how do you play it?  Standing in front of it facing it? :)

Any way you like, Michael.  I have not read a book on how to play a wall banjo.  But as any banjo player knows, it might take a couple of weeks to build up those calluses on the fingers.

Actaully, when I first saw the title, I thought it was the old trick of two nails, a wire and two pop bottles as an instrement...
