OA vaporizer to smoker retrofit
« on: July 31, 2014, 10:49:40 am »
I made a OA vaporizer last year using a block of aluminum and two diesel glow plugs. It works good, but won't fit in my five frame hives. so I retrofitted it to a blower/vaporizer , using an older smoker.

I turned the inner can of the smoker insert up side down to created a ledge for the heater to sit on.

Pic of the vaporizer as it was when I made it and then the retrofit.

I can now blow the vapor into the hive.

Interesting Idea there.  Interested to know how well it works.. I would think the cool air pumping through the smoker would crystalize the vapor too soon, but the proof is in the pudding!!   Let us know if it works!!!

I did a bunch of dry runs (wearing a resporator) and the vapor does come out warm.
But i understand what you are saying and i two now wonder!
The vapour is smoky and warm. I use a six inch clear plastic tube that i blow the vapor into the hive. Ill shorten it to two inches. The air that is blowing through the smoker passes up under and around the heating plate. There is crystal being deposited in the tube thou.
