What?s this?

New beekeeper here.  I got these bees recently from a local seller.  Can someone tell me what I?m looking at here?

That is either an emergency queen cell or a supersedure queen cell. My bet it is an emergency queen cell. Is this picture from your first inspection? If so, contact the seller and get a new Nuc.

Possibly just a queen cup. Look inside to see if there's a egg or larvae. If there's not I'd knock it down.

Sorry for not being more specific.  I was talking about the fused/melted area at the upper left of the frame.  I only have one other hive, but I've never see that before.  It's probably something common, but just looked and felt strange to me.

that corner looks like capped honey.   They build their brood areas in a ball, which on a single frame looks like a rainbow arc.   Brood in the center, bee bread next to that, then honey up into the corners.

That area is capped honey.  That is the usual areas for the food stores in the brood area.

Thanks!  It looks different in my other hive (also new - had someone pull them out of my garage wall and put them in a hive for me).  So much to learn!

It is called wet capped honey. The pretty white capped honey has an air space underneath....
