Finally saw one today. And it was awesome. Makes me want one even more now. Found a Amish feller not to far down road from my work. He makes equipment and sells other supplies. I needed something so instead of ordering online I went there. Nice shop and his equipment looked good. It was also nice to get to talk bees with someone. I will be using him more in the future.

Thanks for posting. How does being inside during the winter affect them?  I would think they would go through more stores. Even though it?s warm does the Queen still cut back on laying during the winter?

Yes, even when the hive is warm but cold out side, the bees are not able to fly and bring in nectar. This and decreasing sunlight is what the queen/bees use to determine when to produce brood. After the winter solstice she will start buildup slowly ever with no food coming in.

To make it through a winter here they need to be pretty strong going into winter but they do fine.  They don't fly when it's cold.
