Squash Allergy
« on: May 21, 2016, 01:12:13 pm »
Does anyone get bumps and itching on the skin from picking squash? My mother and I both do and it is just really aggravating. I had to work my garden and forgot the long sleeves and gloves and it has been 30 minutes already and I am still itching in places with the little red bumps where it touched bare skin. Anyone have this problem or a remedy for it besides long shirts and gloves?

you are not alone.  Google 'picking squash makes me itch'.

Some recommend wiping down with alcohol, but I wonder if vinegar would work too.  that's what we used to use for poison oak exposure.
Someone really ought to tell them that the world of Ayn Rand?s novel was not meant to be aspirational.

Thanks I just tried that and it does seemed to have helped. Okra is much worse but I would not have chanced it without long pants, shirts, and a glove. Odd I get worse reactions from okra and squash than I do bee stings so far. Lets hope it stays that way.
