Here is a Long Hive I built.

I built the long hive from plans on my web site.
I installed a 5 frame nuc of bees in the center.
I added a couple of extra frames and set my follower boards.
The bees took to it right off.
I set the long hive on 4x4 post because that thing will get heavy quick.
While it was in my wood shop folks would ask me what it was, I'd tell them I am building my own casket.
Anyhow the bees like it.
I'm experimenting with it to see how they do over winter.

I like this idea but I don't want to create a hive that requires more maintenance or manipulations to be productive. Please keep us updated on your experience because I know a couple older beeks in my area who are interested in less lifting. ;-)

Quite difficult matters can be explained even to a slow-witted man, if only he has not already adopted a wrong opinion about them; but the simplest things cannot be made clear even to a very intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he already knows, and knows indubitably, the truth of the matter under consideration. -Leo Tolstoy
