I red almoast all of them. They are very interesting and revolutionary. He is right, there is nothing in the reference books about spring developement and swarm prep in deitales like this. I'm going to fallow his nectar management this year. If he is right I wander what to do with the honey? Has any of our experts any red them? Any opinions?
BTW. He recomends an empty brood comb above the brood nest all the time. I do not have that many combs yet. I wander if foundation would work the same?

I have.

Walt is one of the most observant and inteligent beekeepers I've met.  When I went to North Carolina to speak, we spent two days, late into the night, talking bees.  I think his sequence of events as far as swarm prep are right on.  I think his observations about drones (in one of the recent bee magazines) is exactly correct also.  I have not really had the chance to try nectar managment.  I'm always busy breaking hives up for queen rearing (breeder hives, cell starters, cell finishers, mating nucs etc.)  So I haven't really had the chance to try it.

No, foundation will not work the same.  But it may work better than nothing.

This is so helpful - thanks so much - my reading for the next week is set.  I've read some of his articles on Beesource, but this collection is so useful.

I try to read his information often.  Today I discovered that the link above is no longer valid.

Like a lot of 'lost stuff' - they can often still be recovered via the WayBack Machine (Internet Archive):
Try this link: http://web.archive.org/web/20090201172307/http://www.knology.net/~k4vb/all%20walt%20articles.htm

BTW, I'm not endorsing the value or otherwise of these articles - just giving forum members a means of gaining access to them.

LJ,
I was able to pull up and read part 1but not part 2. I did try searching using the info but they all said not available.
Were you able to get part 2?

Hi Jim.

You've lost me ....

The list is of the articles Walt Wright has written in ABJ and Beeculture - at least that's what I'm seeing on my old coal-fired steam-driven computer.

So - Part 2 of what ?  If you can put a name to the exact article, I'll have a ferret around and see if I can dig up anything ...

Ah ... just looked at the page more carefully - must be the swarm prevention part II - I'll have a look for it.

Ok Jim - got it now.

There are two Part II's in the list.

Using the link already given:  archive.org/web/20090201172307/  "Apply Survival Traits ... Part II" downloads ok (for me), but  "A Different Twist ...  part II" doesn't. Apparently the file held is corrupted.

But the copy held in the earlier 2007 scan downloads ok:
http://web.archive.org/web/20071221013850/http://www.knology.net/~k4vb/ABJ%20Copies/ABJ%20April%201996.pdf

If you have any difficulty at all with the download, PM me and I'll swift a copy over to you - it's about 600k.

'best
