Do you really think so? If you look at other great civilizations that fell, barring some great disaster, they took years to crumble. All the signs were there before the fall...or simply the decline into a shadow of what they had been.
If you never heard about similar stuff, it may sound new and discouraging to you.
You are correct that we have had people sleeping on the streets, etc. The difference is where we were at the time. And we did solve (over solve) the problem of early poverty, disease, etc. When you have solved a problem and then the problem comes back, it is a sign of something going wrong with your solution. Entropy is a real thing, but we are helping it along with policy.
You have to give the dems some credit though. They'll put up with just about anything for power. They have a Senator who took bribes and hid money in his closet, but they won't boot him because they'd lose the majority. They have a guy that they allowed on critical committees that required security clearances and he slept with a Chinese spy. Amorality has its advantages.
