Native Bees Resting on Zinnias
« on: July 29, 2021, 11:55:17 am »
Last evening I was out in my mom's garden and in her patch of zinnias there were a bunch of native bees seemingly getting ready to rest there during the night.  There were a bunch of green Agapostemon bees still working the flowers, but quite a few were just sitting quietly below the stamen.

I come from under the hill, and under the hills and over the hills my paths led.  And through the air, I am she that walks unseen.

I also noticed a cuckoo bee of some sort, Nomada maybe, with its mandibles clamped around a stem, and as I was watching another flew in and arranged itself in a similar manner for the night.

Member,
Nice pictures of the bees on some pretty flowers. I didn?t know that they clamp onto a stem like that.

Maybe you could send the pics to Rusty Burlew at honeybeesuite. She'd really enjoy those.
