does the queen keep laying in winter? went out to look at hive [across the backyard] on friday, many bees doing orentation flight. temp was 60+. saterday , cold low 30s three or 4 in of snow. don't think they will be out for a few days.i think they are pretty much cold adapted , they are out every time its in the upper 40s if the sun shines.

Yes the queen lays in the winter.  Different rates depending on the environment.
You may have seen workers and nurse bees relieving themselves as well.
(They try not to do that in the hive).

You will see orientation flights after any prolonged cold spell.  If I remember right it is 3 days.  After that they lose the mental map and have to reset...thus lots of orientation flights even if she is not laying!
