Bees most active time of day
« on: May 27, 2015, 09:37:02 pm »
I've in clouded a photo of my husbands' hives. This is his first year with bees. He studied all winter and got two nucs(on left) in April. He caught the other three hives just from people asking for him to remove them. I have noticed that they are more active in the afternoon around 3:00 when the shade hits them. I'm just wondering they are more active in the afternoon?

That would be flight training school - when the new foragers are orienting to the hive, so they know where home is. It's different from other activity in that the new bees are all facing the hive. The old foragers come and go right through the middle of them.
