From the Altoona Mirror:
Bee gunman shoots self
Mirror staff report POSTED: April 28, 2008
An intoxicated Williamsburg man shot himself Sunday while trying to gun down bees, state police said.
David W. Walls, 57, shot himself in the hand with a .22 caliber revolver, loaded with .22 caliber buck shot, in the Canoe Creek area of Frankstown Township. Hollidaysburg state police said Walls was drinking alcohol.
Walls' son transported him to the Altoona Regional Health System for treatment and he was released.

Ah....Pennsylvania's finest. Suprised to see he's not from Danville. I know that town's mayor. I was in the Navy Reserve with him.
-
No, he was drinking.
Obviously he was just trying to get rid of a nest, and the bees found a gun and went after him. After disabling him they planted the gun on him and got out of there. :-D
I can't say that I've ever heard of .22 buckshot.

12 gauge shells loaded with .22 bullets?  Can you imagine the damage! :-D
-
Regular sized bullets just ruin the bee-meat.

I can't be sure, but I think the writer meant these...

Ya know...you may be on to something there. My dad has the 22 magnum variation of whatever those are called. They are new to me but pretty fun to shoot.
-
I'm thinking the problem is he hadn't had enough to drink since apparently he hadn't killed off enough of the dumb brain cells.
-
I'll drink to that!
Arent the blue bullets called Ratshot?
your friend,
john
-
johnny, yeah that's it. I couldn't think of the name until you said that.
-
heh heh heh...yeh, Sarge, I need some of that now!
Theres so many rats around here lately that they are at my pond 2 and 3 at a time getting drinks!

I have toted a long barrell 22 pistol w/ratshot while bushhogging my field next to the house. I have great respect for the man that can hit something from horseback as in the old westerns. I couldn't hit anything from the bouncy seat of that tractor. :-D
-
rast, some people are actually better shots when moving...
I'm not one of them, either.
-
Yeh, I had a 44 magnum some years ago(Because Dirty Harry had one I fugured I needed one too! :))
I coundnt hit the broadside of a barn! But I always said that if I couldnt hit 'em I would sure scare 'em off with the noise!

I thought of it earlier and tried to supress my urge to post it... call this a weak moment...
I've got to HAND it to the guy, that was some HANDy ammo to have. Let's all give him a HAND for BEEing prepared.
Ok, the puns are out of my system again... for now.
PS - I don't know if you saw the mugshot or not, but he's kinda a HANDsome guy.
