A Better Mousetrap
« on: August 03, 2024, 02:13:43 pm »
It's always nice when the workbench in the garage is well organized. Everything in its own little compartment in the drawer: screws, bolts, washers, snake. . . .  :cheesy:

My mom found this guy when she was looking for a nut to fix a broken chair this morning.  She thought he was one of the kids' toy snakes initially.  :cheesy:  We've been seeing some rodent evidence in the garage lately, so he's probably here to try and help us out with that.  We tripped the mousetraps so we don't accidentally catch him.
I come from under the hill, and under the hills and over the hills my paths led.  And through the air, I am she that walks unseen.

Thank you for letting him be. They are great to have around.

I love our snakes.  some years we have so many that you have to be careful walking down the path so you don't step on them.

Yeah, I'm not scared of a snake like this even slightly, and neither is my mom.  I'm just trying to work up the guts to pick one up.  Rat snakes are super docile, and I've seen people do it, but it makes me nervous to try, even though I know their teeth are so small they can't even really bite.  I've picked up little earth snakes before, but never a rat snake.

Once you do it, you'll be looking for opportunities to do it again.  There's something about them that is fascinating.

My 9 year old granddaughter was here for a couple of weeks and was so disappointed we couldn't find any snakes.  Now they are all over the place.  She doesn't get to snake hunt in TX  :cheesy:

I'm not the worst when it comes to snakes but I'm happy to not see any.

I found a huge black snake in my quail yard.  He came in through the holes in the fence, ate a quail and got stuck because he was much bigger trying to get out.  I had to cut the fence to get him out.  I let him go because I have too many mice around...

About 2 weeks ago Judy came and got me because there was a snake in the rabbit nursery box. It was a 5 foot Rat Snake. I caught it and turned it loose in my hay barn. It is full of peanut hay and the rat population is out of control. I was hoping it would help but there were way too many. Maybe if I had turned loose a dozen snakes they may have had a chance of getting them under control. The peanut hay has lots of peanuts in it.

I have an adult cat, Top Cat, she lives in the top of my barn. Someone dropped her off in my driveway just before she delivered a litter. She is not a good mouser. We have a 2 month old kitten that was dropped off 2 weeks ago that I put in the peanut barn. We will see how good she is at being a mouser. (She followed my neighbors girls on my horses 2 miles down a dirt road. 😊)
