The Grain Combine

My experience with farming is minimal but more than city folks. I'm in a rural area for my region and we have one farm that runs the biggest operation in my area. In addition to the couple of hundred acres at their primary site, they rent fields throughout our area. Crops include corn, barley, wheat, soybeans, and sorghum and are rotated, in addition to other fields that they harvest the grass out of. I don't know where they get their equipment but when the harvest is hot and heavy with silage, they have some pretty big articulating tractors that they run the wagons to and fro with. More than one of them and they look showroom new. Anyhow, today they're harvesting the wheat from the 15 acres or so across the street. Man comes down the road in the combine with the picker head in tow, lengthwise on a skeleton trailer. I don't think he gets out of the tractor at all and he drops the trailer, drives around to the side and picks up the picker head and gives it a test whirl. I expect that the machinery in the grain belt is a bit bigger than this equipment but I'm impressed by it just the same.
