Azaleas. Are they a problem?
« on: October 15, 2020, 03:09:57 pm »
I've spotted three azalea plants within a close distance from where my hives will be. Is this a serious problem?

I have several azaleas on my property, a few natives and a few non-natives, and we also have tons of rhododendron.  I don't have any issues with the honey bees working the azaleas or the rhododendrons.  They usually leave them alone unless we are in a really strong dearth.  The native bees LOVE the azaleas though.  I've seen carpenters, bumbles, masons, and sweat bees all working them.
I come from under the hill, and under the hills and over the hills my paths led.  And through the air, I am she that walks unseen.

Charles,
I have several large azalea bushes on my property with as many 30 hives at times.  I have never seen a honey bee on azaleas.

LMAO @worrywort. Thank you all. If you Google the issue it looks dire. But I've yet to hear a beekeeper express concern
Excited to get started in the spring. I'll be here often. You guys are great for information.

Same here. Azaleas 🌺 everywhere many colors, no problem. I have never seen a bee 🐝 on one.
