Title: Quick and simple solar melter.
Post by: Jerrymac on April 21, 2005, 06:22:24 pm
If you have the stuff lying around.

This idea just popped, or rather BURST, into my head. I got a small aluminum square pan, placed about six layers of comb in it, placed it on a board, and placed a ten gallon aquariun over it. This was at 4:49 PM
clear skies, 80 F temp. I came in to report my findings at 5:10 pm. In just twenty minutes the comb is wilting. It will still to your fingers if you touch it.

Tomorrow I am going to rig up a screen over the pan to filter out junk. Paint the board it is sitting on black and maybe the outside of the pan. I might place some aluminum foil around to reflect the sunlight back and it will probably go even fast.

Will keep you up dated.
