When will be time to order nucs for the spring of 2009?

I'd say now. I always recommend buying locally from someone you know. Down your way timing may be different, but I know one Indiana producer that as of last month already had orders for several hundred nucs.

A lot of the places I've ordered from (Rossman and Drapers specifically) usually start taking orders around October or November.

I ordered my first 2 nucs last year from Dadants. They didn't take orders until January 1st, 2008 for pickup late April or May.

Winter is for getting ready for next year.  Repair what's needed.  Buy and assemble the new equipment.  If you don't buy in the fall, get it ready during winter, you won't have it ready when you need it.

You got that right Brian!  I ordered 200 frames in early spring this year and it took 6 weeks to get them!
