My uncle invested in 10 nuke hives from a reputable provider in QLD. Within three weeks all hives with hive beetle, which apparently is expected these days and one hive we discovered at the three week mark we believe is chalkbrood. It was surprising as he said never came across it last time he kept bees which was the 80's.
Anyway, chalkbrood is in just one 5 frame hive but next to another 4 boxes on the one long stand.
Should this hive be moved out, or do we just let them continue battling the chalkbrood until they are ready for large boxes?
And do you guys decontiminate yourselves after checking or dealing with a hive with chalkbrood? Is it technically a quarantine type situation?
Apart from keeping the hive fed and strong anything else worth doing?

I'd ventilate it good, and maybe requeen it.

I would requeen it.

I would start with one or two hives unless you have an unlimited supply of cash.

Let's keep Homeland security out of this... they are NUCS not N*KES It's short for nucleus hive.

Thanks for the info folks, I have passed it onto him. As to nukes, thanks for the grammar naziing but its a common enough spelling I think I will stick with it. I could go one better by saying being a down under forum, lets keep Americanisms out of it. We dont have a department of 'Homeland Security'. ;)

We don't either. It is just a way to expand the military budget.

Noooo were a multicultural country, Americanisms is part of life. Just ask my 15 year old son.
I thought nucleus colony?s go in hives. Or is that colonies?
Anyway, I?m glad we have a good biosecurity regime here and don?t have to deal with the pests our Northern cousins battle with.
Even our Eastern brothers for that matter........
