Varroa have been in New Zealand since at least 2000.

While that is technically correct, Varroa were first discovered in 2000. It was not until this year that the government in New Zealand accepted it's fate as permanatly infested with Varroa. The
issue on how the governement reacted and handled the early discovery of Varroa is a huge issue of contention between the beekeepers and the government.

You're right, they went on the typical, and hopeless, eradication binge, which will bankrupt the beekeepers and accomplish nothing...
