Title: Rebo's bee hive
Post by: rebo on November 04, 2019, 12:37:35 am
Hello Everyone.....

I am new to bee keeping and enjoying it so far, but as a new bee keeper I am needing some help.

I was wondering if someone could help by looking at my photos of my hive and tell me if everything looks good or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards Rebo

Not sure if these photos will post or not either.....

Rebo,
Welcome to Beemaster.
If your frame was covered with bees when you pulled it out of the hive, I would say they look good.
I do not see any mite droppings. Ward to see but it looks like the larvae are a nice white. I do see one larvae that looks like it was cut up for removal. That is a sign of good hygienics.
The capped cells look good, they are convex and not sunken in. No holes and good color.
Looks good.

I would say the same as sawdstmaker.  If those frames that don't have bees on them in the photos had bees on them and you removed them, then I think you're doing fine.

OK. Thankyou.

The frame was covered in bees.  I was concerned because I think I can see lots of workers and no drones and thought maybe the my hive has become queenless.  Next time I open the hive I need to search for the queen as I didn't see her this time.

No mate, all you need to look for is evidence of a queen.

" I do not see any mite droppings."

So far we don't have Varroa in Australia.

@Rebo
What Skeggley means is that if you can see brood in all stages that is eggs, larvae, pupae, capped brood, you are all good. She is in there somewhere doing her job.

New beekeepers fuss too much about finding the queen to the detriment of the hive and possibly killing her through accidentally dropping a frame.
Like I said if you can see brood in all stages don't worry about looking for her. The hive is good.
Cheers
