Built 1st swarm trap.
« on: July 02, 2019, 02:44:45 pm »
Got my 1st swarm trap mounted this weekend.  I know it's late and if I catch anything it'll be more to establish the hive and keep it alive through winter rather than try to get honey out of it this year.  That said, I'm pretty stoked.  It's a good location with lots of berry farms and farm fields close by.  I've baited it with Lemongrass oil and a bit of wax and comb rubbed around the inside from my main hive.  Could be higher I suppose but whatever.  Here's hoping :)

That should work out just fine, if you have a good flow on or will have one soon, you have a chance of catching a swarm. I hope it is a very large swarm that can build and collect enough food to make it through the winter.
The height is about perfect.
I would feed 2 to one sugar water  to help them have a chance through your winter. It is April late for a swarm this late for your area.
