I've sent a PM to the owner of this forum, but have received no response, so I thought I'd mention it here.

When I come here I see the different subforums that have new posts, but if I click on one of those new post indicators, upon returning to the index all the forums are marked read.

This seems to be a problem with the newest version of the forum software.  I read forums on many varied topics, from Pilates through PDA's, etc. and have seen this problem in a few of them since the new software came out.

Could you please check into this?  It makes this whole board pretty much unusable for me, and I'm sure others are having similar problems.  I'm reading this firght now via Mozilla 1.7.12, but I've verified the same problem with Firefox 1.5 and IE 6.

I've run into several different bugs on the phpBB software, but never experienced this one.  Normally I would think this would have something to do with cookie-problems and how this is configured in your browser, but as you have already experienced the same bug in thre different systems, it doesn't seem like it is a client software problem.

Just to get an idea of how great this problem is; has any other memebers here experienced the same problem?

I will add however that sometimes after midnight all forums indicate they have been read even if I haven't visited that particular section.

I looked for the message in my PM box, it may have cycled out, sorry for not replying - it surely is not my policy.

I have too had this problem with Explorer - and I use a Netscape 7.0 Gold version I refuse to upgrade for the reason that it is package with Composer, a html editor I like. Netscape (as in firefox) seem to be less buggy with the Phpbb.

This is surely something I can't fix, I'll look for upgrades, but I got us in a bit of a problem LAST TIME I upgraded the software (the spam-bot members we see come up from time to time ) were allowed to auto-register cause the member varification software disappeared, so EVENTHOUGH updates USUALLY address such obvious issues as UNREAD POSTS, the surely is no guarentee it will be in the next update.

NOTE: I do note that, it is only when I do something in the forum OTHER THAN READ POSTS that the unread ones get unmarked: for example, go into the PMs, Check the membership list, look at any of the screens besides going back and forth to new posts.

BY THE WAY - If you click on the link in the upper right area above the main page saying POST SINCE LAST VISITED, you can get a complete list of new posts and just BACK to that page after reading posts - I think that should always work???

This is the way I always use the forum. However many posts have been made since you last logged in are displayed, and as you read them there is a little black arrow next to them that dissappears. Works every time for me! :D

For the record (since I'm the original poster in this thread) the new post bug seems to be gone.  We'll see next time I log in if it's truly fixed.

Edited:  Nope, not fixed     It makes reading this forum rather difficult to read.

I am experiencing intermittent problems with the Post reply button myself.

It will kick me out to Forum Index rather than open a Message body.

Sometimes repeatedly.

Sometimes no problem at all like this time.

I am using Firefox.

The only time i have seen this problem is when i log on the the forum from work, look at only a few posts, then go home and log on to all posts showing read. It only happens to me once a week and i am on here every night. If i only use one PC all of the time, it never happens. i don't know if that helped but maybe it will help someone troubleshoot a little better...

I just go by dates when that happens...

The only thing seems to fix it for me is to go to any other post and look at it and then return to that previous post and hit reply again. It seems to fix it. If I don't do that it will return me to Main index time and time again each time I click on reply button.

Happens at home on my laptop. And here at work as well.

Both are running Firefox but I should try Safari and see if it occurs

Also both are automaticaly loggin in. Maybe I should also try logging out and back in and see what that does.

Its not like it does not let me eventualy post. Its just annoying and I lose my train of thought. Perhaps its better that way? Like a "Prevent foot in mouth" feature? :D

I am using IE and whenever I enter one forum, read one post and leave, the forum is marked as read, too. Also, sometimes I must post a reply several times to get it through.

There are two black arrows that show in my browser IE6+, one is to the left side where topic is listed and the other is to the right were the posters name is listed. If I click the one to the left and then click GO at the bottom of the post it clears all the black arrows as if I marked all files as read. If I click on the black arrow at the right with the posters name and then click GO I go back to the list of posts and all the black arrows are there to indicate new posts and then I just go down the list. The black arrow at the left next to the subject name I just read has dissapeared
