Has anyone had any experience with using these frames, even if it is just putting one in with a new package to give them a head start.

If it is brand new HSC, it will not give them a head start as the queen will not lay in it. The only way I could get a queen to lay in them is if they have had honey stored in them first.
Once they become "used" the queen will lay just fine in them.
