Title: TBH Help
Post by: jgarzasr on March 17, 2008, 01:01:25 pm
I had to take a year off of BeeKeeping to build my house... (did most of the work myself).  I had one TBH that is located on my property.  I have not managed it all all since 2006 - however last summer it was strong, and I am sure it had loads of stores that I did not get at all.  We had a couple 50 degree days last week, and I went out and checked it, and they are nice and strong so far.  What should I expect w/ this hive when I began managing it again this year - since I missed a whole year?

Should I cut out a lot of the old comb?

any suggestions on any things I should be doing?

Thanks,
Jason.

I'd love to see some pics of a fully established TBH.

Is it still easy to pull the combs out?

Peak and then decide what to do.  If it has comb on all bars and extra honey you can harvest so they have room to build more comb.  If you don't they will most probably swarm.  If you build another TBH you could always split the hive.

Good Luck.
